WHAT SOUND DID YOU SEE?

ABOUT LIGHT

Light is made up of different wavelengths of light, each of which appears as a particular colour. What the human eye sees as 'colour' is actually a phenomenon caused by the specific wavelengths of light reflected into our eyes.

When you close your eyes and shine different colours of light into them, can you tell what colour the light is shining on you?

Everyone perceives the colour of light differently, just as most people can tell that the light shining on them with their eyes closed is red because red light has the longest wavelength.

At the same time, sound also travels in the form of wavelengths, which have somethin in common. So Yuki decided to look for the connection between light and sound. Because she has always been afraid of the sound of motorcycles, and when she hear it, she always associate it with black.

The first fear of sounds is Phonophobia, which is an anxiety disorder related to the sounds of puppets. The latter is Chromesthesia (sound-to-colour synesthesia), which is associated with the sound. This phenomenon is common, with one study suggesting that "both synesthetes and nonsynesthete associate high pitched sounds with brighter or lighter colours, and low pitched sounds with darker colours, suggesting a possible common mechanism in the normal adult brain." (What is Misophonia?) So she began to wonder how colour and sound recognition in other people's brains might differ from mine. She started thinking about how to express sound and colour at the same time

INSPIRATION

COLOUR OF SOUND

“I feel fear when I hear the motorcycle sound, and this feeling of fear will turn into anger, I will instinctively make a louder sound than the motorcycle sound to cover up my fear and give myself a sense of security. So I would throw black spitballs onto the canvas to make noise.”

“I feel panic when I hear ambulance sound. Red means panic to me. Then I gradually calm down a little and add yellow. As the noise continued, I began to get impatient and threw paper wads at the canvas.”

“The wind sound is a very soft sound. In my mind, blue and white are soft. They are like silky curves.”

“The rain sound is a calming voice for me. It makes me calm down and listen carefully. So the light pink color will slowly flow down the canvas with the water.”
