In Johannes Itten's theory, the essence of a square is that two horizontal and two vertical lines of equal length intersect. All geometrical elements with flat and vertical characteristics can be assimilated into a square, including a cross or a rectangle.

Squares are represented by red, meaning matter, gravity and sharp limitation.

A triangle is a sharp shape so it is represented by yellow.

The circles is smooth, so they are represented by blue.
