ABOUT

Dive into Blue is an immersive VR experience designed to raise public awareness about marine pollution and inspire collective action for ocean conservation. Drawing on the real-world efforts of “The Ocean Cleanup“ as the main narrative thread, the project takes audiences on an emotional journey from witnessing the scale of plastic waste in the oceans to experiencing the impact of clean-up interventions. Alongside this central storyline, the piece integrates interviews with smaller grassroots organisations and individual activists, highlighting diverse approaches to protecting marine ecosystems and showing that meaningful change can begin at any scale.

Combining cinematic visual design, spatial sound, and interactive elements, Dive into Blue aims to engage users not only as passive observers but as active participants in restoring ocean health. By merging factual content with immersive storytelling, the experience seeks to transform abstract environmental data into tangible, affective encounters, encouraging empathy and motivating real-world behavioural change.

Intro

Players explore the beautiful underwater environment and face the harsh marine plastic pollution, triggering a deep reflection on environmental protection.
First-person dive through vibrant coral and marine life, shifting to polluted waters with floating plastic, revealing the harsh reality of ocean pollution.

Scene 1

Through the example of an individual, he explains his purpose of setting up an ocean clean-up organisation and wants to draw global support and attention to it.
Inspired by a high school dive, Boyan Slat is determined to use ocean currents to solve the problem of plastic pollution, turning his vision into a global clean-up campaign.
Boyan Slat developed a passive ocean cleanup system using data and models, gaining global support and founding The Ocean Cleanup to tackle marine plastic pollution.

Scene 2

Early struggles, learning from failures, and innovation led Boyan Slat’s team to develop advanced ocean cleanup systems, progressing from prototypes to scalable solutions for global marine plastic removal and environmental loss.
Driven by perseverance and urgency, Boyan Slat’s team aims to overcome setbacks and innovate effective solutions to clean and protect the oceans from plastic pollution worldwide.
Boyan Slat’s team evolves from humble beginnings to advanced ocean cleanup systems, learning from failures to create scalable solutions that recover vast amounts of ocean plastic worldwide.

Scene 3

Efficient, large-scale clean-up of marine plastics using advanced technology, ecological monitoring and innovative recycling systems.
To demonstrate how innovative, scalable technology can effectively and sustainably remove plastic waste from the ocean.
System 003 is towed at sea, collecting plastic via a mesh structure, with robotic arms transferring waste onboard for sorting and recycling.

Scene 4

A symbolic transition from polluted oceans to collective environmental advocacy and hope through public engagement.
To encourage collective awareness and action for marine conservation by showcasing unified efforts from multiple environmental organizations.
At dusk, players reach a grey, shimmering sea and land on a beach where various environmental groups advocate for ocean protection.
